FALMOUTH - KINSALE - GIJON - CAMARET
Petit Bateau 2004, a single handed ocean race for monohull or multihull
boats of 30-45 feet LOA. Racing is not restricted to boats within this size
limit but the race is mainly intended for boats of this size.
There will be fleet restarts at the beginning of each leg, ensuring all
competitors, fast or not quite so fast, keep together and an active social
program in each stopover is expected. Despite their independent and
adventurous nature, there is nothing single handed sailors like better than
gathering together with a few like minded individuals in a bar or restaurant.
Petit Bateau 2004 is an event organised BY single handed sailors, FOR
single handed sailors. Not professionals, but Petit Bateau members. The event
may be friendly, but the competition will be as good as you will get anywhere
in the world. In a format that makes the racing accessible to everyone.
It may start in the UK, but with stopovers in two countries and the finish
in a fourth, Petit Bateau 2004 is a truly international event that reflects
the international membership of Petit Bateau. Entries are expected from many
nations.
Please help us publicise the race by downloading the poster for your yacht club notice board or

Where is the start?
Entrants will gather at Mylor
Yacht Harbour, at the entrance to Mylor Creek, off Carrick Roads in the
Fal Estuary. There will be various social events in the days prior to the
start, hosted by the Mylor Yacht Club who are
also running the start line.
Is it handicap racing?
Yes and No. Results will be given for actual performance on the water for
all boats. Any boat with a valid handicap certificate, IRC or MOCRA,
submitted before the start, may additionally get a handicapped result.
Will the fleet be divided into classes?
There will be open classes for 30-35ft, 35-40ft and 40-45ft LOA.
What about multihulls?
Multihulls are very welcome and will be given results in their own
classes, based on size, as above.
What are the legs and dates?
Leg 1: Falmouth to Kinsale, Sat 17th July 2004, approx 200 miles.
Leg 2: Kinsale to Gijon, Wed 21 July 2004, approx 500 miles.
Leg 3: Gijon to Camaret, Wed 28 July 2004, approx 300 miles.

I have a Pogo 8,50, can I enter?
Yes, possibly. Boats outside the 30-45ft size limits, that comply with
the safety requirements, may be considered for entry. Best to email
PB2004@petitbateau.org.uk
giving all details before sending in your entry form.
What are the safety requirements?
All entrants must hold third-party insurance of at least UKP2million,
complete a 250 mile qualifying passage and meet ORC special regulations
category 1.
Is it expensive to enter?
We want entry fees to be as low as possible. As all of the work
organising and running PB2004 is by volunteers, our main outgoing is
insurance and this is expensive. There is a sliding scale of entry fee, based
on the number of entrants. We expect the entry fee to be UKP300.
And what is this insurance deposit?
To cover our volunteer organisers, we are asking for a refundable deposit
from each entrant. This is to cover the large excess our insurance policy
carries. Again levied on a sliding scale, we expect the refundable insurance
deposit to be UKP250.
Where do I get the Entry Form?
It is included with the Rules and Conditions of Entry.
